If you’re in the New York City area, or will be on May 3rd — and are a fan of indie rock, you definitely don’t want to miss the Red Hot Organization’s Dark Was The Night benefit concert at Radio City Music Hall.
The goal of this concert is to raise AIDS awareness through popular culture and and will feature several of the artists that contributed to the same titled compilation including Dave Sitek, Dirty Projectors, Feist, My Brightest Diamond, The National, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings plus more to be announced in the coming weeks. All of the proceeds will go to the Red Hot Organization.
The Dark Was The Night compilation album was released on February 17th and has been getting rave reviews from fans and music critics. The two disc set features 31 exclusive tracks and reads like a who’s who of the most vital parts of the contemporary indie rock scene. Spin magazine states, "The latest in the Red Hot series of AIDS benefit albums plays like a musically and thematically linked NPR broadcast from a gentle corner of indie-rock heaven."
According to Billboard.com:
"On this record, we tried to capture this musical renaissance, which may not have the cultural impact of grunge or punk, but is equally significant from a cultural and creative standpoint," says Red Hot co-founder John Carlin, who executive-produced the album. "It’s an assertion of Aaron and Bryce’s generation. These artists are not fringe or marginal."
Tickets for the Dark Was The Night benefit concert will go on sale this Friday, March 13 at 11am via Ticketmaster. It begins at 8pm on 5/3/09 (doors will open at 7).
