Tailgunner Joe & The Earls of Slander was formed in Spring 2007 by Tampa local scene veterans who wanted a serious shot at the bigtime. Travis and Cannon, former members of both Tampa rock outfit My Rocket Heart and acoustic trio Keilah, teamed up with Alexander Boss of Dream State Heroic to develop a group with a fresh new style. The members had a vision of a band that delivered an extra helping of in-your-face, raw rock n' roll energy with a slight Southern twang. So was born Tailgunner Joe & The Earls of Slander.
The group played its first show in March, 2007, was honored in 2008 to open for The Legendary Shack Shakers and the Misfits, and has been hailed as "one of the most promising young bands to hit the seen of late" by Creative Loafing Magazine and "one of the premier newcomers of '07" by Tampa Bay Times Magazine. In August 2008, Creative Loafing Magazine awarded Tailgunner Joe and the Earls of Slander the honor of Best New Band during their annual Best of Tampa awards gala.

"I would never think that a nice group of church going, church activity doing boys would be able to scratch me where it itches, and they did just that. Mind-blowing."
